A MTV anunciou que a cerimônia do Video Music Awards (VMA) de 2024 foi adiada em um dia, passando de 10 de setembro (terça-feira) para 11 de setembro (quarta-feira). A decisão foi tomada para evitar um conflito de audiência com o altamente esperado debate presidencial dos EUA entre Kamala Harris e Donald Trump, que ocorrerá na mesma semana. A rede, que historicamente tem promovido o engajamento cívico e a participação eleitoral, reconheceu que o debate poderia ofuscar o impacto do evento musical, levando à decisão de mudança de data.

O VMA, que este ano contará com apresentações de Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla e Rauw Alejandro, será transmitido ao vivo da UBS Arena em Nova York às 21h (horário de Brasília), na quarta-feira, 11 de setembro de 2024. Esta data marca a primeira vez que o evento será realizado em 11 de setembro desde os ataques terroristas de 2001, um fato que a MTV reconheceu ao confirmar seu apoio contínuo à organização 9/11 Day, dedicada ao Dia Nacional de Serviço e Lembrança.
